User Experience (UX) Designer

User Experience (UX) Designers explore different approaches to how a product or website can function. They often wireframe a rough layout of a website or an application based on user research and user testing. They create user personas and look at various scenarios of how they may use a website or product.

UX Designers may work directly with product managers and visual design teams to lead brand transformations. They will also own and define UX (and sometimes also UI) standards across multiple online platforms. They will conduct user research and facilitate user feedback on a client’s brands or product. UX Designers are essential to creative teams because they create and refine user flows, customer journey maps, and personas as well as wireframes, prototypes, and visual specs in order to support web brand initiative and A/B tests.

Common requirements for UX Designers include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technology-related area (such as Computer Science, Graphic Design, Visual Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Web Programming, or Information Architecture)
  • Proficiency in prototyping tools such as Figma, InVision, Origami, Adobe XD as well as wireframing tools such as Omnigrafle, Axure, Sketch as well as other design programs such as HTML, Javascript, and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • The ability to efficiently communicate UX terminology and concepts into easily understood language

UX Designers may be tasked to iterate on designs and workflows as well as a prototype to improve site conversion rates, facilitate design exercises and workshops with cross-functional stakeholders, and to stay informed on the latest trends in UX design.

Other job titles that may be used in place of UX Designer are Experience Designer, Visual Designer, Interaction Designer, Information Architect, UX Strategist, UX Architect, and UX Analyst.
